Monday Motivation – Shopping Seasonally

Happy first day of Autumn! I honestly can't believe that Summer is over. Nonetheless, with a new season comes new tasty foods. Autumn brings with it such wonderful produce that is perfect for some of your favorite fall-styled recipes.

Buying seasonal produce is more cost-effective and more often than not, the produce is more fresh and nutritious. Here are some great options as well as what you should purchase organically:

  • Apples (organic)

  • Arugula

  • Beets

  • Belgian Endive

  • Bok Choy

  • Broccoli (organic)

  • Broccoli Raab (organic)

  • Brussels Sprouts

  • Butternut Squash

  • Cabbage (organic)

  • Carrots

  • Cauliflower (organic)

  • Celeriac/Celery Root (organic)

  • Celery (organic)

  • Chard (Swiss, red, rainbow)

  • Cilantro

  • Collard Greens

  • Daikon

  • Eggplant

  • Escarole

  • Fennel

  • Figs

  • Garlic

  • Grapes (organic)

  • Green Beans (organic)

  • Horseradish

  • Kale (organic)

  • Kohlrabi

  • Leeks

  • Lemongrass

  • Limes

  • Melons

  • Mushrooms (organic)

  • Parsnips

  • Persimmons

  • Pomegranates

  • Potatoes (organic)

  • Radishes

  • Rutabagas

  • Shallots

  • Sunchokes

  • Sweet Peppers (organic)

  • Sweet Potatoes (organic)

  • Turnips

  • Winter Squash

Can you just imagine all the delicious soups, pies, and/or salads that you can make with these amazing fruits and vegetables? I'm so excited to go shopping for these seasonal yummies! You want to stick to organic when at all possible but if you can't, try and stick to the "dirty dozen" (the marked produce).

I hope that you enjoy your first day of Fall!

Until next time,

Amanda
