I am getting more and more excited about the updates to A Dancer's Diary! I've learned a lot since the first publishing that I'm thrilled to be adding that new information to the second edition. Not only will there be more helpful tips, updated nutrition facts, and more strength and injury information, it will also be formatted differently for easier use.
If you already own a copy of A Dancer's Diary, don't worry, the new version won't be too different. However, if you don't own a copy of the book yet, I'm offering the books that I have leftover for only $20 if you order via my contact page. Just mention the discount in the message box. You can also pre-order the 2nd edition, just be sure to mention it.
To ease curiosity and get you as excited as I am, here is a little sneak peek!
Ignoring the Pain
Pain is your body’s way of telling you that something is not right. When you feel pain, stop whatever you are doing immediately, especially if the pain is coming from joints. Dull, achy pain is usually pain coming from sore muscles and is not necessarily bad, whereas sharp, shooting pain can mean something is more seriously injured. Find where the pain is coming from and treat it properly.
Pushing through the pain can be detrimental. A lot of times, dancers are so accustomed to feeling pain that they ignore the signs of an injury. Allowing pain to continue untreated, especially from a ruptured tendon or fracture, can lead to surgery and longer recovery time.
Even though there are ways of preventing injuries, sometimes injuries can become unavoidable. In the next few sections, we will discuss how you can treat various minor injuries. Please remember that if you suspect a severe injury, you must visit your doctor.
Speedy Healing
Our bodies have a natural healing process but sometimes it needs a little help to maintain a constant state of homeostasis. Eating well, drinking lots of water, and taking (or eating) natural anti-inflammatories can help with this natural process. Most active people are prone to some sort of injury. The best way to help those injuries heal faster is by taking care of them at the first sign.
Remember to consult your doctor if your injury persists or worsens within a couple of days. I also recommend doing your own research on everything that I have discussed in this chapter. It is important to be informed about these and other injuries in order to know how to properly diagnose and take care of yourself.
Don't forget to place your order of A Dancer's Diary. Thank you for your support!
Until next time,
Amanda
