It's June! This means that Summer is that much closer! With the warm weather, comes going out and getting active. Playing off my last post - Exercising in the Great Outdoors - I'm giving you some tips on how to avoid heat-related illnesses.
When Exercising Outdoors:
Choose a cooler time of the day to workout - early morning (6-11) or late evening (4-6). Avoid the 11 AM-3 PM time slot.
Wear comfortable, breathable, cool clothing that will allow air flow. You can also bring a wet, cold towel to help you cool off.
Stay hydrated throughout your workout. Sip at your water throughout your workout to avoid getting overly dehydrated. I recommend adding a magnesium powder such as Natural Calm by Natural Vitality to replace lost minerals or coconut water.
Stay in the shade as much as possible. Being in the sun will heat you up a lot faster.
Go slow. Strenuous exercise will heat you up faster. If you begin to feel any of the below symptoms, stop what you're doing immediately.
If you have high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, poor circulation, or are overweight, you are more at risk of heat-related illnesses.
Some Symptoms of Heat-Related Illnesses:
Now, go out and get active!
Until next time,
