Since my theme has gone back to weight-loss, I decided that it would be a great time to discuss metabolism-boosting foods. You'll remember from my previous posts about weight-loss that metabolism is a huge component of how quickly or slowly you gain or lose weight. If you have slow metabolism, you will most likely gain weight faster and lose it slower. On the other hand, if you have fast metabolism, you will most likely keep weight off better and lose it faster.
With that said, here is an excellent (not exhaustive) list of delicious foods that you can consume to get your metabolism revved up. And remember, restricting your calories can cause slow metabolism so make sure you're eating a very well-rounded diet.
Green Tea (full of antioxidants)
Almonds (raw is preferred)
Eggs (the whole egg!)
Salmon (healthy omega-3 fatty acids)
Hot Peppers (increase heat to burn off fat)
Wild Blueberries (powerful antioxidants that reverse free radical damage)
Probiotics (live cultures for healthy gut flora)
Bee Pollen (normalizes chemical imbalances that cause abnormal weight gain)
Various Proteins (chicken, grass-fed beef, fish, dairy, seeds, nuts)
Lentils
Ginger
Cayenne Pepper
Cacao (encourages the use of fat for energy)
Apple Cider Vinegar (increases the amount of fat used for energy)
Coconut Oil
Water
Seaweed (increases thyroid function)
Try and stick to purchasing the most natural version of these food items. Organic, extra virgin, raw, etc. are the best forms in which these foods can be found. If you have any questions, let me know! Check back on Thursday for part 2 of my personal opinion on weight-loss programs.
Until next time,
Amanda
