Books You Must Read This Summer!

Writer's picture: AmandaHowardAmandaHoward

Today is beach day! And, with beach day, comes the thought of which book I should bring along with me. I am always the one at the beach laid out on my towel with a book in my hand (occasionally taking a break to stick my feet in the water to cool off).

With that said, I would like to share my top 10 favorite summer reads. Let me know what your favorite books/authors are in the comments below. Enjoy!

#1 The Great Gatsby

I love this book! I finished it in one day when I first bought it, I loved it so much. This book is great for the beach as it is compact and could possibly be finished off in a long afternoon. It has adventure, mystery, and romance all taking place in the roaring 20's. You can read the synopsis here.

#2 Anne of Green Gables

Again, I can't tell you how much I love this book! It's full of imagination and adventure. Anne is a kindred spirit in whom I continually find pleasure in joining her on her many escapades. This is only the first of the series so be prepared to be pulled in. The synopsis is here.

#3 Robinson Crusoe

I never thought that I'd like this book so much. When I was younger, I insisted that it was a book for boys. However, it was very fun to read and follow Robinson Crusoe on his adventures on the island inhabited by cannibals. Here is the synopsis.

#4 The Swiss Family Robinson

Another island adventure, this book is a wonderful read! It follows a family who get shipwrecked on an island and have to make a home for themselves. You can read the synopsis here.

#5 To Kill a Mockingbird

This was a great novel that I recommend everyone to at least try. It has a great story and great characters that are both fun and serious. The synopsis can be found here.

#6 Emma

Like many Austen fans, Pride and Prejudice remains my favorite. However, Emma takes a close second (for now). I find it funny, charming, and romantic. If you are in the mood for a feel-good, historical romance, this is one of my favorites. Here is the synopsis.

#7 The Secret Garden

I haven't read this book since middle school but it still remains one of my favorites. I think I would equate this book as being similar to Wuthering Heights (which is also a pretty good book...weird...but good). Here is the synopsis.

#8 The Three Musketeers

Alexandre Dumas is one of my favorite authors of all time. The Three Musketeers is only one of his many wonderful books. It's full of adventure, romance, and comedy. I love this book so much! You can read the synopsis here.

#9 Much Ado About Nothing

I know Shakespeare rarely makes it into must-read books for summer, but it's one of my favorites. It's funny and romantic. The synopsis.

#10 The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

If you're in the mood for a good mystery/drama, this book is a great choice. I really enjoyed this book. Here is the synopsis.

So, what do you think? Have you read any of these books, or do you plan to?

I hope you had a great day! Until next time,

Amanda
