Let's Talk Weight Loss Snacks - Part 3

I hope that these posts have helped you along your weight-loss journey. Unfortunately, so many people are so desperate to lose weight quickly that they buy into the easy fixes that the weight-loss industry pushes. The downside to this is that, yes clients might be losing weight, but they are also experiencing other health issues because of either the ingredients in the weight-loss foods or because they are not properly adjusting their diets/lifestyle for the long-term results they want.

Losing weight is more than eating right. It is about eating healthy, organic foods that are high in natural vitamins, antioxidants, protein, and fiber, exercising the right way to increase endurance, strength, metabolism, and circulation, and avoiding high amounts of stress. When you embark on a weight-loss program, patience is the number one thing you need to remember. It will take time, there is no easy fix-all for your health.

If you are finding that you are not losing weight even though you are following a great program, you may have some other issues that need to be dealt with such as stress, vitamin and mineral deficiencies (hair analysis can determine this), imbalanced hormones, etc. Check with your doctor or health specialist to see what you can do to remove these road blocks.

With that out of the way, let's get into the post!

Today I wanted to focus on Nutrisystem because it is very popular. Although their foods aren't as bad as SlimFast, they still have issues and I intend on making them clear.

Nutrisystem

The goals of Nutrisystem are to portion control, fuel the body with necessary nutrients, and to eat frequent meals. This is all good, however, you need to eat the right foods. I love that they encourage the client to avoid counting calories and just eat. Overall, I think they are on the right track. Let's dig a little deeper into the ingredients, shall we?

Breakfast:

Turkey Sausage & Egg Muffin

Datem (can cause typical gluten-allergy symptoms because it is a chemical. Also caused heart fibrosis and adrenal overgrowth in lab animals.)

Find out more: IIBFY

BHA (a controversial ingredient that causes cancer in mice and can be carcinogenic)

Find out more: Live Science

BHT (the body is unable to remove this product efficiently thus the buildup can cause cancer, liver lesions, adhd, neurotoxicity, and more)

Find out more: IIBFY

Cinnamon Roll

Wheat protein isolate (highly processed and can cause allergic reactions. It can also contain trace amounts of harmful toxins/heavy metals)

Fructose (unless naturally derived from eating a fruit, the chemical version can be poisonous and cause obesity)

Find out more: IIBFY

Corn syrup (shouldn't be eaten unless it is organic/non-GMO)

Maple Brown Sugar Oatmeal

Maltodextrin (not a terrible ingredient, however, it does raise blood sugar levels and is not recommended for people trying to lose weight)

Caramel color (known in California to cause cancer, ruins the immune system)

Dextrose (again, not a terrible ingredient but it can cause hypo and hyperglycemia and increased fat storage)

Banana Nut Muffin

Wheat protein isolate

Niacin (can cause allergies and large doses can cause diabetes and liver damage)

Thiamine mononitrate (a synthetic form of vitamin B1 that can gather in the liver causing cellular toxicity and liver damage)

Find out more: LiveStrong

Maltitol (can cause abdominal pain, diarrhea and digestive issues)

Sodium carboxymethylcellulose (allergies and eye problems)

Peanut Butter Granola Bar

Corn syrup

Soy protein isolate (this ingredient is highly processed and can cause allergic reactions, thyroid problems and dementia)

Lunch:

Double Chocolate Caramel Bar

Soy protein isolate

Corn syrup

Carrageenan (an indigestible thickener that is destructive to the digestive system and causes inflammation. It can also cause cancer)

Find out more: Wellness Mama

Polydextrose (a chemically produced form of false fiber)

Find out more: Slate

High oleic sunflower oil (mildly increases blood sugar levels, influences insulin levels, can cause allergic reactions, and can increase weight gain if taken in large doses)

Find out more: OilyPedia

Homestyle Chicken Soup

Thiamine mononitrate

Hydrolyzed corn protein (contains MSG which can cause brain cell death)

Maltodextrin

Loaded Potato

Maltodextrin

Sodium nitrate (causes Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and cancer)

Calcium caseinate (this protein is separated so many times that it breaks down the natural and healthy effects of whole proteins)

Find out more: Mercola

Dinner:

Mushroom Stuffed Chicken Breast

Maltodextrin

Niacin

Thiamine mononitrate

Carrageenan

Lasagna with Meat Sauce

Carrageenan

Niacin

Thiamine mononitrate

Soy protein concentrate (contains MSG which can cause brain cell death)

Caramel color

Maltodextrin

I still think that the worst ingredients were the ones found in the SlimFast foods. I didn't even get to the snacks and desserts in Nutrisystem, but they were pretty much the same or similar ingredients used in the above foods. In conclusion, the bad ingredients found in these food items definitely out-way the good ingredients because of the serious health issues and diseases they cause.

What are your thoughts?

Until next time,

Amanda
