Making Water Interesting

Writer's picture: AmandaHowardAmandaHoward

Ever get bored of drinking just plain water all the time? Here are some great ways to lower stress levels, detox, and lower inflammation by adding fun ingredients to your daily water. On a daily basis, you should drink up to 8-8 oz. cups of water in order to stay properly hydrated. If you start to feel thirsty, that is your body's way of letting you know that you need more water.

See if these recipes will help you stay away from sugary drinks. Because the fruits have natural sugars in them, it will lightly sweeten your water. I challenge you to cut out all sugary drinks (sweet tea, soda, vitamin water, Gatorade, etc.) and try a few of these options instead for 3 weeks. You might start to see a difference in how you feel. You might have more energy, lose weight easier, and your skin, nails, and hair will be hydrated. Enjoy!

Lemon Water

Lemon water is probably the most popular way to flavor your water while adding great health benefits. Lemon is great for indigestion, constipation, lowering high blood pressure, dental problems, and for losing weight. Vitamin C, vitamin B6, vitamin A, vitamin E, magnesium, calcium, iron, and potassium are just a few of the wonderful vitamins and minerals that lemons contain. I recommend drinking lemon water in the morning for an extra boost in metabolism, mood, and weight loss.

The best way to prepare your lemons:

1. Start with washed organic lemons.

2. Place the lemon in a blender and blend until smooth.

3. Pour into an ice cube tray and freeze until needed.

This way you get the benefits of both the peel and the juice. The peel contains most of the benefits of the lemon, so it is important to leave it on whenever possible.

Add a cube of lemon to a mug and pour warm water over it to melt it. Let the mug sit for a minute or two to make sure that the lemon is melted completely.

Or, you can add fresh slices of an organic, washed lemon to room-temperature water.

For an extra boost in metabolism, add some cucumber slices and coconut water.

For extra detox, add 1/4 tsp. cayenne, 1/2 tsp. manuka honey, and 1 tsp. apple cider vinegar.

Cucumber, Strawberry, and Basil Water

I love adding cucumbers and strawberries to my water. Cucumbers are great for hydration as they are 96% water making them great for flushing toxins and regulating body temperature. They contain magnesium, and potassium which are great for regulating blood pressure. Cucumbers are also an great source of silica making them perfect for promoting joint and connective tissue health.

Anthocyanins in strawberries help stimulate the burning of stored fat making losing weight a lot easier and they also boost short term memory. Strawberries also aid in lowering inflammation, anti-aging, promoting blood and oxygen flow, and eye health.

Basil is an anti-inflammatory, pain-reducer, liver-protector, immune-booster, and anti-stress herb.

Slice an organic, washed cucumber and strawberries and place them in a cup. Gently wash and tear the basil leaves and set them aside. Pour room-temperature water over the fruit and top with the basil. Gently stir and enjoy!

You can also add a little lime juice and some mint for an extra flavor kick.

Apple Cinnamon Water

Apples are for digestive issues because they contain so much fiber. Anything with a lot of fiber will help you control and/or lose weight a lot easier. Apples are also great for detoxifying your liver and quercetin in the apples helps to boost your immune system.

Cinnamon is great for lowering "bad" cholesterol levels, blood sugar regulation, thinning the blood, arthritis relief, anti-bacterial, and is high in manganese, fiber, iron, and calcium.

Slice up an organic, washed apple (green or red) and place in a jar or cup. Pour room-temperature water over the apples and top with a sprinkle of cinnamon. Gently stir and top with a cinnamon stick.

For an extra metabolic, immune, and detoxifying boost, add 1 Tbsp. apple cider vinegar.

Orange Berry Water

Oranges contain phytochemicals that protect against certain cancers. They aid the kidneys is detoxification, lower "bad" cholesterol levels, are rich in potassium and vitamin C, help relieve constipation, regulate blood pressure, and alkalize the body.

Berries are so full of nutrients and antioxidants, making them one of the most important fruits to add to your daily diet. They protect every part of the body including the heart, blood, brain, eyes, DNA, kidneys, bladder, and so much more.

Slice up an organic, washed orange and place them in a jar or cup. Add a few organic, washed berries and pour room-temperature water over them. Gently stir and enjoy!

I hope you have enjoyed this post! I look forward to the next one. Let me know what you think of these recipes. Have you ever tried any of them? I love to hear your feedback and ideas on what water combinations you have tried and loved.

Until next time,

Amanda
