When you are on vacation, it can be difficult to eat healthy or on the cheap. Thankfully, if you have a kitchen, there are ways to circumvent spending money on restaurant meals by making them in your room. Whenever we stay in Florida, we always stop by Whole Foods for some groceries to fill in the extra days.
At Whole Foods, or certain grocery stores, you can find healthy, frozen meals. Our favorites are Amy's Macaroni and Cheese, Amy's Burritos, Saffron Road Chicken Tikka Masala, and Blake's Gluten-Free Chicken Pot Pie. They are healthy ways to have quick meals in your hotel room. The downside to purchasing healthy frozen meals, however, is that it can add up just like eating at a restaurant.
With that said, here are some options that are just a bit cheaper and are still easy to prepare in your room.
Grilled Cheese
What can I say? Grilled cheese is one of easiest things you can make. Simply put cheese in between two slices of bread and cook it up. You can even add delicious toppings like avocado, green onions, tomatoes, and bacon.
Hot Dogs
Another really easy meal to make is hot dogs. We like putting them in Brioche buns for extra carbohydrates to fill us up for longer. Again, toppings are optional depending on what you want to buy and what you think you will use by the end of your stay.
Spaghetti and Meatballs
This meal is a little more involved, but it's a delicious one. Just some spaghetti, meatballs, and sauce. That's all you need to make a delicious meal.
Chicken Caesar Salad
I love having a salad on vacation when I've been eating junk food during the day. It's a great way to get vegetables into your diet in a creative and delicious way!
Egg Salad Sandwiches
Boiling up some eggs in the morning and having them ready for an egg salad sandwich for lunch is perfect. It provides great protein and carbohydrates for the afternoon.
Oatmeal and Berries
Oatmeal is a great start to your morning. Pair it with berries and you have the best complex carbohydrates, antioxidants, and vitamins. You can also mix it up by putting some honey, maple syrup, bananas, or walnuts on it.
There are so many ways that you can create simple meals in your hotel room. I hope that this post has given you an idea of how to eat healthy on your vacation. Let me know if you have any ideas that you would like to share. I would love to hear what you eat on your vacation.
Until next time,
Amanda
