The Benefits of Clay

Writer's picture: AmandaHowardAmandaHoward

I love treating myself to a "spa" day every once in a while to feel pampered. Clay masks are great for detoxing and rejuvenating the skin. The two best clays with the most health benefits are Bentonite clay and French Green clay. Both can be used in poultices and masks for various skin conditions and some can even be taken internally as dietary supplements. I will discuss both in more detail.

Bentonite clay is on the most popular clays and can be found online as well as in many health stores. It is most often used to aid in detoxification of heavy metals and assisting in mineral deficiencies. Bentonite clay is sourced from naturally occurring volcanic ash sediments, thus it is full of beneficial minerals such as calcium, magnesium, silica, sodium, copper, iron, and potassium.

The clay molecules seek out and bind together with the molecules of most toxins and heavy metals and stay together throughout the removal process. This process is similar to chia seeds being put in water. Bentonite clay can be used on eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis, you can add a little to your bath water, can be applied as a facial mask, and can be taken internally (make sure you purchase an edible version) as a dietary supplement.

Some of the benefits of this amazing clay include, helping your cells receive more oxygen by removing excess hydrogen, alkalizing your body, promotes the production of "good bacteria", relieves nausea, IBS, and constipation, boosts immunity, and can improve the health of your teeth and gums if you brush with a little on your toothbrush.

The next great clay is French Green clay. It is highly absorbent which makes it great for oily skin and removing toxins and impurities. French Green clay contains many trace minerals like calcium, magnesium, silica, phosphorus, copper, and zinc. Tightening pores, toning the skin, exfoliating dead skin cells, and reducing acne inflammation are just a few of the main benefits of this clay.

Now to how you make a facial mask with these. It is super easy and if you have extra, you can keep it in the fridge for 2 days.

Clay Mask-

-1/4 cup Bentonite or French Green clay

-1/2-1 Tablespoon of apple cider vinegar (only enough to make a paste)

Mix both together until you have a paste. Using a brush or your fingers, apply a thin layer to your face (or any affected area). Leave the mask on for up to 30 minutes. The clay will dry out your face a little so only leave it on until you start to feel slight pinching and/or drying.

Gently wash your face with lukewarm water and moisturize immediately following. You don't want to skip the moisturizing because the clay will have removed any impurities and oils from your skin. Moisturizer will help replenish natural oils and re-hydrate your skin.

I hope you are having a beautiful day! Don't forget to pamper yourself.

Until next time,

Amanda

P.S. I always encourage you to do your own research. This product does not serve as a way to treat or cure disease.
