We can all agree that flu season is pretty awful. It prevents you from getting to class, it prevents you from going to practice, you feel groggy, stuffy, achy...sick. Of course you know there are things that you can take, eat, and drink to help you feel better once you get sick...but, did you know that there are simple ways to prevent you from getting sick in the first place? Today that is what we are going to talk about.
The reason you get sick is because your immune system is low and is not able to fight off infection quickly or efficiently. Once a virus enters your body it can either be removed by your body or allowed to fester. Boosting your immune system will help you avoid getting sick. The best ways that I have found to give your immune system a little aid are as follows:
Vitamin C
Taking higher doses of vitamin C at the onset of cold and flu symptoms can help you kick the virus fairly quickly. Vitamin C helps support immune function and cellular health, which will make it easier for your body to recover. I recommend you take Airborne (chewables or fizzy tabs) at the first sign of illness.
Garlic
Eating fresh garlic helps fight infection and in turn, will boost the immune system. It also increases circulation which is great for flushing out toxins. I recommend crushing some garlic and putting it on a buttered piece of bread when you are starting to feel a little under-the-weather.
Drink Water
Water helps your body flush out toxins so staying hydrated is an important part to staying healthy.
Get Enough Sleep
Sleeping allows your body to recover and heal. Not getting enough sleep will lower your immune system because your body doesn't have the ability to properly repair itself.
